Boot Camp Assistant is a multi boot utility included with Apple Inc.' S macOS (previously OS X) that assists users in installing Microsoft Windows operating systems on Intel-based Macintosh computers. The utility guides users through non-destructive disk partitioning (including resizing of an existing HFS+ or APFS partition, if necessary) of their hard disk drive or solid state drive. This article covers how Boot Camp works and how you can set it up on your Mac. Boot Camp has been available as part of Mac OS X since Leopard (10.5), released in 2007. The latest version of Boot Camp as of this writing, Mac OS X Lion (10.7), supports Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate editions source: Apple. Boot Camp 4.0 for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard up to Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion version 10.8.2 only supported Windows 7. You can set the default operating system to either macOS or Windows. The default operating system is the one you want to use when you turn on or restart your Mac.

Set the default operating system

1. In Windows on your Mac, click in the right side of the taskbar, click the Boot Camp icon , then choose Boot Camp Control Panel.

2. If a User Account Control dialog appears, click Yes.

3. Select the startup disk that has the default operating system you want to use.

4. If you want to start up using the default operating system now, click Restart. Otherwise, click OK.

You can’t change your startup volume to an external FireWire or USB drive while you’re using Windows.

Restart in macOS

• Restart using Startup Manager: Restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Option key. When the Startup Manager window appears, release the Option key, select your macOS startup disk, then press Return.

  If you’re using a portable Mac with an external keyboard, make sure you press and hold the Option key on the built-in keyboard.

• Restart using Boot Camp Control Panel: Click in the right side of the taskbar, click the Boot Camp icon , then choose Restart in macOS.

  This also sets the default operating system to macOS.
